Complaints, Monitoring and Inquiries Group (CMIG)
Pursuant to section 4(1)(d), section 4(2)(c) and section 4(2)(d) and section 12 of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Act 1999 (Act 597), SUHAKAM is responsible for receiving and investigating into complaints regarding alleged infringements of human rights, conducting inquiry into an alleged infringement of human rights of a person or a group of persons, as well as conducting visits to places of detention and to make necessary recommendations. In carrying these responsibilities, SUHAKAM established the former Complaints and Inquiries Working Group in 2000.
Following a restructuring exercise it undertook in 2012, the Commission consolidated the former Complaints and Inquiries Working Group and the former National Inquiry Committee (NI Committee) into the Complaints, Monitoring and Inquiries Group (CMIG). Apart from assuming the roles and functions of the former Complaints and Inquiries Working Group and the former NI Committee, the CMIG is also responsible for monitoring public events involve public gatherings or rallies.
