Education and Public Relations Group (EPRG)

Under Section 4(1)(a) of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Act, SUHAKAM is responsible for promoting awareness and providing education in relation to human rights. In carrying out this responsibility, SUHAKAM established the former Education Working Group in 2000 to provide education, training and information to all stakeholders, through various activities that aimed at promoting greater understanding and practice of human rights values among all societal members.

Following a restructuring exercise it undertook in 2012, the Commission consolidated the former Education Working Group with the former Public Relations Division into the Education and Public Relations Group (EPRG).

The main functions of the EPRG are to:

  1. promote respect for and protection of human rights through educational activities for all members of society;
  2. assess needs and formulate strategies for the furtherance of human rights education;
  3. foster learning environments that encourage participation and development of a caring personality that upholds the dignity of human beings and values friendship, understanding, tolerance and equality; and
  4. collaborate with government agencies, non-governmental organizations and civil society in the implementation of human rights education programmes.
