Dissemination of rights awareness among women through the Convention on the Elimination on All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is also advocated by the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) to ensure that the positions of women in this country are not oppressed and to bring awareness to the importance of women community in shaping the country’s future.
The main features of CEDAW are :-
- Making the Nation responsible for the rights of women.
- Preparing for philosophical policies of women’s rights: Substantive equality.
- Provides a broad description on definition of discrimination and set to eliminate all forms of discrimination in order to bring equality between women and men.
- Provide law regarding women’s rights in all aspects and set the relationship between civil, political, social and economic rights.
